Science Day at the Community College

Science Day at the Community College

Year 5 pupils enjoyed a day of chemistry, physics and biology at Holsworthy Community College.

In their physics lesson, they created their own balloon rockets and learnt about the physics behind the movement through working in teams on a practical experiment into Isaac Newton’s third law of motion. In the biology session they had the opportunity to observe a heart dissection; use sense of touch to feel the difference in tissue on the lungs and heart and completed a practical experiment involving listening to theirĀ hearts, taking blood pressure etc to inquire into how exercise affects heart rate. Finally, in chemistry, they learnt about chemical changes through potions, watched a ‘flame test’ and a ‘Screaming Jelly Babies’ experiment.

Many thanks to the staff at Holsworthy Community College for hosting such a brilliant day!
